CREATE A LOGICAL DRIVE IN FREE SPACE OF EXTENDED DRIVE IN WINDOWS XP

To create Logical Drive in an existing Extended Partition's Free Space, in a Windows XP operating system follow the steps.(This presume that your Hard disk's Extended partition has some amount of Free space.)
1. Click on "Start" button, Go to "My Computer" and right click on it
2. Now select "Manage"  from the list

3. Now you will get a new window. In the left side column, Click on "Disk Management" and in the right side column, you can see the graphical presentation of your basic disk. Right Click on the empty area (usually with a green colour boarder) and click on " New Logical Drive" option.
4. Now you will get a new partition wizard. Here click on "Next" button.
5. Now Select "Logical Drive" option and click "Next"
6.Now enter the desired partition / Logical drive size in MB. It should be equal to or lesser than the amount of  existing free space, and click next.
7. Now you can assign a drive letter, if you do not have any particular preference, leave the existing options as it is and click "Next"

8. Now select the file system - I recommend NTFS, Allocation unit size you can leave as Default, and Enter the Volume label (The name you prefer to give for your new partition). If you do not have any preference, leave it as it is. Tick the option "Perform a Quick format". Now press "Next".
9. Now you will get a report like window giving information you already opted.
Now you click on "Finish". By these steps, you will have successfully created a new partition in your extended drive's free space. Now Click on "My Computer" Icon and see newly added partition.
